The KUCSC offers students a chance to step into leadership roles and shape the student experience at King’s. Whether you’re passionate about advocacy, event planning, or representing student voices, running for KUCSC is an excellent way to make an impact while developing professional skills. Elections Details
Who is Eligible to Run?
All current King’s students, both full-time and part-time, are eligible to run for a position in the KUCSC. Executive and Representative candidates must meet the minimum academic requirement of a 70% average to qualify, all other candidate positions require a 65%. Each position comes with unique responsibilities, so review the Terms of Reference available on the KUCSC website to ensure you’re prepared for the role.
Open Positions
During the Winter Elections, the following positions are open for election:
The President is the primary voice of the KUCSC, liaising with King’s administration and advocating for students’ interests across all levels.
Vice President of Student Affairs (VPSA)
Focused on advocacy, the VPSA addresses student concerns and oversees initiatives and events that enhance student life.
Vice President of Student Events (VPSE)
The VPSE is responsible for planning engaging on- and off-campus events, managing KUCSC clubs, and overseeing commissioners. This role plays a vital part in creating events that make King’s feel like home.
University Students’ Council (USC) Representative
USC Representatives connect King’s students with the wider Western University student body, advocating for affiliate-specific issues and participating in USC committees.
The Election Process
Here’s what to expect when running for a KUCSC position:
1. Nomination Period
Submit a Nomination form, (for President, Vice President, or USC Representative) and Platform Disclosure Form, available online or at the KUCSC office. Forms require a set number of student signatures, depending on the role. You may also organize a campaign team (up to 10 members) by submitting a Declaration of Campaign Team form.
2. All-Candidates Meeting
Attendance is mandatory. This meeting outlines campaign rules and election procedures.
3. Campaign Period
Use this time to build your platform, connect with students, and share your vision for the role.
4. Voting Period
Students will receive an email to their UWO inbox that will provide the link for voting. The elected candidate is determined by the majority vote.
Candidate Debate
The All-Candidates Debate is a critical part of the election process, offering candidates an opportunity to present their platforms and respond to student questions. It’s a chance to showcase your vision and engage directly with the King’s community. All students are encouraged to attend and participate.
